Oh, get over yourself. The problem is "viewers like us," so a majority of 13 million viewers - that's a lot of problems! You act as if differing fan interpretation and disapproval with canon is something new. We went along with the ride and many of us didn't like the end. As you said, you can't please everyone. When those who are displeased are upward of 60% according to most polls (Internet polls, fair enough to take with a grain of salt) then yes, it is fair to argue they may have failed commercially. So expect people to gripe and look for a retcon. They won't necessarily get it, as sitcoms aren't historically as receptive to fan backlash in that way as say comics, but you can't sit there as one of the few who liked it and pretend everybody else agrees with you. I suppose there's a natural desire for you to want to defend your victory or whatever, that's fair. Though as it's a finished story, I argue that some here who liked the finale are needlessly defensive...
Besides the main point from my post of about a week ago was that this ending wasn't necessarily inevitable. We have since had word from Carter Bays himself that they were on the fence between two "very different" endings. As with many storytellers they decided along the way what was best for their story. They eventually stood with their original vision, but it may not have been the case. We'll see when the DVD comes out how different those truly were. Maybe its not that different, but considering they're using the promise of the alternate ending to encourage displeased viewers into buying the DVD set, they'll just reanger the fanbase if it's too similar... (Here I'm not necessarily even debating. I'm genuinely curious.)
In the end most will move on and just remember HIMYM as one of those shows with good episodes but a crappy ending. That's what displeases me most of this because the show deserves better than that legacy.
