Gudren Olsen was the local wino of Marshall's home town of St Cloud, Minnesota, who the townspeople decided to elect mayor as part of their philosophy of believing in people. At some later point, Olsen drove off a bridge and died, presumably while drunk. The bridge was then named after him.
